SWA SC Qualifying Meet 1

Riverside fielded 16 swimmers in the first target meet of the short course season. It was a very successful weekend for our participants, and we all got to see (and even swim against) some of the best swimmers in our state such as Tasmin Cook and Blair Evans.

Some highlights of the meet.
– 43% of the swims were Personal Bests.
– Cronan and Abbey achieved their first ever state qualifying time

Some massive PB’s were set
– Abbey dropped 8 secs in the 200 Free and 4 secs in the 100 IM
– Jaymie dropped 11 secs in the 100 Back and 7 secs in the 100 Free
– Cronan dropped 26 secs in the 100 Back and 13 secs in the 100 Free
– Taig dropped 36 secs in the 100 Back and 6 secs in the 100 Free
– Kon dropped 12 secs in the 100 Back
– Elise dropped 23 secs in the 200 IM and finished 4th in total points for the meet

2016-17 Junior LC Championships

Congratulations to everyone who competed at the Junior State Long Course championships recently. The very best swimmers in the state gathered together for three days of intense competition including nine from Riverside this year, with four making a first time appearance.

Some highlights of the meet.
– 9 simmers were entered in a total of 47 races
– 64% of the swims were Personal Bests.
– 14 finishes inside the Top 10

Special mentions to Kon who had an amazing 7 PB’s and to Jaymie, who topped off a great meet with a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke.

Albany Short Course Success

It was an outstanding effort by a strong Riverside squad at the Albany Short Course Carnival on the weekend.
Riverside’s medal haul included 14 individual medals! Well done to Natasha who earned eight medals in the pool and Imogen who won two medals. Emily, Daniel, Elise and Kyle also added to the medal count.
A mighty relay effort by Imogen, Elise, River and Natasha saw the girls take home the bronze medal in the Under 14 Medley Relay. They scored a state qualifying time too!

A great weekend for Riverside who had nine swimmers compete at the South Lake Dolphins Short Course Carnival.
Here is a brief report from Coach Sandy:

– Four swimmers swam at their first ever meet and posted some strong swims.

– Medal, PBs, state qualifying times and solid swims achieved by the group.

– Emily bagged a heap of medals

– Kyle, Filippos and Kon also picked up medals in various events.

– Cooper had the largest PB of the day. Thirty seconds for 200m Freestyle

– Filippos took on Jayden in the 100m Fly (Tall and Short of it). Jayden earned line honours however Filippos picked up a silver medal and a state qualifying time.

York Distance Meet Success

 

Three Riverside swimmers brought home a swag of medals from the this year’s York Distance Meet. Natasha Angelidis and Imogen Barwick were named among the top five female achievers for the meet with Natasha breaking the open 400 metre medley meet record.

Natasha won the open women’s 400m medley, the girl’s 14 years 100m breaststroke and the 13 to 14 years 100m butterfly. She placed second in the 200m freestyle event.

Nine-year-old Emily won the girl’s 10 years and under 50m freestyle,  the girl’s 12 years and under 200m breaststroke and the girl’s 12 years and under 100m butterfly. She placed second in the girl’s 11 years and under 200m medley.

Imogen Barwick also put in a strong performance picking up silver in the girl’s 13 years 100m freestyle, girl’s 13 years 200m medley, girl’s 13 to 14 years 200m breaststroke and the women’s 10 years and over 400m freestyle.

Riverside swimmers have put in an outstanding performance at their school and interschool swimming carnivals.

Imogen Barwick – Year 8 Champion Girl at Mount Lawley Senior High School.  Imogen was Runner-Up Year 8 Champion Girl at her interschool competition.

Emily Barwick – Year 4 Champion Girl at Coolbinia Primary School. Emily was also Champion Girl at her interschool competition.

Isabella Berti – Year 6 Champion Girl at Coolbinia Primary School. Isabella was also Champion Year 6 Girl at her interschool comp!

Leah Pearce – Year 6 Runner-Up Champion Girl at Coolbinia Primary School.

Elise Werndly –  Year 6 Champion Girl at St Peter’s Primary School.

Alexia Galipo – Runner-Up Girl Champion St Andrews.

Cooper Mazzola – Year 5 Champion Boy at Our Ladies Assumption Dianella.

James Corney – Year 7 Runner-Up Champion Boy at Mount Lawley Senior High School.

Ben Corney – Year 5 Champion Boy at St Paul’s Primary School, Mount Lawley.

Mitchell Kikiros – Year 6 Champion Boy at Coolbinia Primary School. Mitchell then went on to be Champion Boy at his interschool carnival.

Kon Stergiou – Year 5 Champion Boy at St Andrews Grammar.

Filippos Stergiou – Year 4 Runner-Up Boy Champion at St Andrews Grammar.

Lazo Karpatsis – Year 5 Runner-Up Boy Champion at St Andrews Grammar.

Riverside celebrations

RSC_Mail_LogoRiverside swimmers will head into their final weekend of competition for Club Championships with a gruelling 1500m race on Saturday morning followed by breaststroke, freestyle and medley events on Sunday afternoon.
Club officials will then sort through results and calculate who will be Riverside’s champions. The results will then be a tightly kept secret until announced at Riverside’s presentation evening to be held at Yokine Reserve Clubrooms (just across the road from Terry Tyzac Aquatic Leisure Centre) on Saturday April 2, 2016.
All club members and their families are welcome to attend. So please save the date!

2015 Junior State Short Course Championships

Congratulations to 4 of our swimmers who recently participated in the Junior Short Course State Championships. River Wernblom, Imogen Barwick, Emily Barwick and Eva Siamis all did themselves and Riverside proud with multiple Personal Bests achieved over the weekend (despite a few sniffles an ailments!). Our 9 year old girls performed exceptionally well and deserve a special mention. Emily won the Gold medal in the 100m Breaststroke, Silver in the 50m Breaststroke and a Bronze in the 100m Individual Medley. Eva picked up a Silver medal in the 100m Butterfly. We look forward to welcoming many more of our junior swimmers to the Long Course State Championships in April 2016.

2015 State Open & Age SC Championships

Both girls competed in the 2015 State Open & Age SC Championships over the weekend.
The club is extremely proud of both girls who performed exceptionally well achieving multiple PB’s.
